Better Together — Even After the Call
Written by Founder – J Paul Russell
Scripture
“A cord of three strands is not quickly broken.” — Ecclesiastes 4:12
One thing I’ve learned over the years is that God never intended for us to walk this road alone. He knows the weight this work can carry, and He equips us with exactly what we need to stand strong. He gives us resources. He gives us people. And He gives us His steady presence that doesn’t waver, no matter what the day brings.
In emergency services, we’re surrounded by men and women who understand the job, the pressure, and the responsibility. We don’t just show up together, we grow together. We encourage each other. We learn from each other. And we lean on each other in ways most people never see. That’s one of the greatest gifts God provides: a community that strengthens us both on duty and off.
And here’s the part I appreciate, that support doesn’t end when the call does. When the scene clears and life settles back into its normal rhythm, those relationships still matter. The conversations, the laughter, the shared experiences, the prayers, all of it continues to hold us up. God weaves us together with purpose. Responders, families, friends, and His Spirit, all forming a cord that doesn’t snap under pressure.
We really are better together. Not just during the call, but long after it. God designed it that way. He knew we would need each other, and He made sure we’d have the right people around us at the right time.
Thought in closing
Take a moment this month to appreciate the people God has placed in your life. Reach out to someone. Offer a word of encouragement. Share a moment of laughter. Pray with a coworker. Let someone pray with you. These simple connections strengthen the cord more than we realize. Every time we build each other up, we reflect the hope and unity God intended for us.
Prayer
Lord, thank You for the resources You’ve given us, the people who encourage us, the strength You place within us, and the hope You renew in us. Thank You for surrounding us with teammates, family, and friends who lift us up and remind us that we’re never walking this road alone. Help us to stay connected, to build each other up, and to keep You at the center of everything we do. Strengthen our hearts, steady our steps, and guide us as we serve. Amen.
